Alec Bohm’s reaction to disastrous National Anthem at MLB All-Star Game doesn't go unnoticed

Philadelphia Phillies star Alec Bohm struggled to contain his laughter during the National Anthem as country singer Ingrid Andress produced a rocky edition of the U.S. "Star Spangled Banner."

Bohm was taking part in MLB 's Home Run Derby on Monday in Arlington, Texas but before baseball stars got hitting homers, four-time Grammy Award-nominated artist Andress opened up her lungs to the crowd. Andress struggled to hit high notes at Globe Life Field, and while fans criticized the singer on social media, Bohm was spotted holding in his laughter.

ESPN's live coverage appeared to show the slugger suppressing a smirk, drawing praise from MLB fans for keeping his composure. "He couldn’t help it, neither could the entire audience watching that train wreck," one fan said, reacting to Bohm's smirk.

"Nobody in this derby is going to top Alec Bohm’s performance of holding back a laugh during that National Anthem," another said. A third tweeted: "That girl was HORRIBLE. So much willpower on display in this picture."

Bohm fell in the semi-finals of the home run competition to eventual winner Teoscar Hernandez of the Los Angeles Dodgers. The pair were locked in a tense swing-off. Bohm tied Hernandez's 14 homers in the semis - but wasn't able to eclipse the total.

In the swing-off, Hernandez hit two, to Bohm's one, confirming his place in the final against Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. The Dodgers star went on to win - a first for his franchise.

“People maybe underestimate [me]. You can see it at the end when [Bobby Witt Jr.] was hitting all those homers,” Hernández said after the competition. “Everybody was [rooting] for him. But I'm here, [and I’m] as talented as all those guys over there.”

Dodgers third-base coach Dino Ebel added: "I kind of sat back behind the chair and watched him, and he was excited. You could see it. When he stood up and when that ball went up in the air, I looked at him.

"He thought that ball was going to go out. What a moment when he stood up and raised his hands. I kind of looked up to his family and they were jumping up in joy. That's the thrill I get out of it.”

Despite losing, the 27-year-old Bohm's reaction to being the first to reach the semi-finals was one of the highlights of the event. "How about that?" Bohm joked on the broadcast. "Just like everybody thought. Just like everyone thought."
