FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – After being selected in the fifth round of the 2024 MLB Draft on Monday, Carter Mathison had a decision to make – sign with the Phillies organization and begin his pro journey in the minor leagues, or stay in college and play his senior season with the Indiana Hoosiers.

The 2022 Indiana Mr. Baseball while a senior at Homestead High School, Mathison will sign with the organization and begin his pro career. He will fly out to Philadelphia this weekend to sign his contract, then report to the Phillies training facility in Clearwater, Florida.

Mathison was drafted with the 162nd overall pick. This past spring he hit .260 with 13 home runs as a junior at Indiana University. He has tallied 42 career home runs in college – sixth-most in I.U. history.
