According to a petition started on Change.org, residents are urging the ‘Avenue of the Arts’ to enhance biker safety.

Just one day after its start, the petition has already received over 1,000 signatures and continues to grow.

A concerned resident, Shelby Roseman, started the petition to ask for enhanced biker safety by installing road separators.

The petition stated that “Philadelphia witnesses an alarming average of 10 bicyclist fatalities and over 1,200 reported bicycle-related injuries annually.”

Shelby states that the ‘Avenue of the Arts’ is already undergoing a $100 million transformative project so why not adapt some plans to make the area safer?

Her proposal includes green infrastructure such as tree-lined bike lanes and strategically placed planters as road separators and lists the economic benefits, community alignment and trust, sustainability, and long-term benefits.
