Philadelphia Eagles safety Sydney Brown is expected to miss the start of NFL training camp.

Jimmy Kempski of PhillyVoice.com reports that Brown will begin training camp on the PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) list.

The news isn't surprising considering Brown is still recovering from an ACL injury he suffered during the the Eagles' 2023 regular-season finale against the New York Giants .

If for some reason Brown does not return from the PUP list before the regular season starts, then he will miss at least the first four games.

But that shouldn't be the case since Brown, himself, reported back in March that he was ahead of schedule following his January knee surgery.

“I feel amazing. I can start working out for you right now if you want to,” Brown said, via NBC10. “I feel great. I’ve been kind of in and out of Philly. I’ve been working out with the trainers at my home school in Illinois. (Senior athletic trainer) Jerome (Reid) and (VP of sports medicine/head athletic trainer) Tom (Hunkele) and the crew have been working real hard with me. I feel like I’m miles ahead of where I should really be. I will be ready for when the season comes around.”

Recovery time from ACL surgery is roughly six months, so Brown should be at least ready to compete again in the middle of training camp.

The Eagles originally selected Brown out of Illinois in the third round of the 2023 NFL  draft.

It didn't take long for Brown to adjust to the NFL level as he appeared in 14 games (five starts), registering 45 tackles, three passes defended, one forced fumble and an interception that he returned for a 99-yard touchdown.

With the Eagles extending Reed Blankenship's contract and signing C.J. Chauncey-Gardner in free agency, it will be interesting to watch and see if Brown can earn a starting job this offseason.
