Pro Bowl cornerback highlights Eagles' cut candidates

    By Jarrett Bailey,

The Philadelphia Eagles enter training camp on a quest to exorcise their demons that led to losing six of their final seven games, including their wildcard loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

From Week 12 onward, Philadelphia’s defense ranked 29th in EPA per play, success rate, and EPA per dropback. They were also 31st in EPA per rush defensively, ahead of only the Seattle Seahawks.

Several changes have been made to the coaching staff, including hiring Kellen Moore and Vic Fangio as offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator, respectively. More changes will come in the form of cuts, though, and these notable players could find themselves on the chopping block before we reach the regular season.

    TE C.J. Uzomah

The 31-year old tight end is entering his first year with the Eagles, but it could end up ending before it begins. Uzomah is coming off a season in which he only had eight catches. In his two seasons with the Jets, he only caught 29 passes. Dallas Goedert is obviously the starter, and with younger bodies like Grant Calcaterra, Albert Okwuegbunam, and E.J. Jenkins also on the roster, Uzomah could be the odd man out.

    CB Eli Ricks

Ricks was a guy that surprisingly went undrafted in 2023 and landed in Philadelphia. He got solid playing time as a rookie, totaling 233 coverage snaps, and struggled to find consistency throughout the season. In a crowded cornerback room that just added more bodies in the draft (more on them very shortly), Ricks is going to be competing with the likes of Kelee Ringo and Josh Jobe for a roster spot.

    CB James Bradberry

Bradberry was simply bad last season. He allowed a passer rating of 108.6 when covered, per PFF, and he gave up 689 yards on 56 receptions - both of which were top 20 in the league. Philadelphia drafted Quinyon Mitchell out of Toledo in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, and he can be an immediate starter opposite of Darius Slay. Isaiah Rodgers is also a very fine No. 3 cornerback. A bad year combined with how the Eagles drafted puts the writing on the wall for Bradberry.
