Newly acquired NBA superstar Paul George had his introductory press conference with the Philadelphia 76ers on Tuesday afternoon, where he suggested he had always known he would join the team.

George, who signed a four-year, $212 million contract with the Sixers in early July, hinted that his move to Philadelphia was almost destined.

During the press conference, George revealed Embiid was the main reason he ended up in the City of Brotherly Love.

"It kind of felt inevitable that we would link up and be teammates," said George. "He's secretly been one of my closest All-Star Game friends."

George's statement reflects the belief that an MVP-caliber player like Joel Embiid would never leave Philadelphia, making it clear that for George to play alongside his friend, he would need to come to the 76ers.

In addition to joining Embiid, George will also be teaming up with rising star Tyrese Maxey, who also recently secured a big contract, signing a five-year, $204 million extension with the team.

Entering his 15th NBA season, George previously played for the Indiana Pacers, Oklahoma City Thunder, and Los Angeles Clippers.

Throughout his career, he's averaged nearly 21 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game, earning nine All-Star selections, four All-Defensive Team honors, and six All-NBA Team nods.

He was also named the NBA's Most Improved Player in 2013.

George's arrival brings a wealth of experience to the 76ers as they aim to advance past the Eastern Conference semifinals for the first time since 2001.

His veteran presence could prove crucial in helping Philadelphia achieve its championship aspirations.
