Philadelphia Eagles rookie defensive back Cooper DeJean is expected to miss several weeks of NFL training camp.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported on Tuesday that DeJean will start camp on the NFI (Non-football injury/illness) list due to a hamstring injury he suffered after he made a catch in an awkward position during offseason training.

The injury will keep DeJean sidelined for at least three weeks.

Fowler adds that DeJean's injury is unrelated to any prior one and that the Eagles are "confident" in a speedy recovery and he will contribute as expected this fall once healthy.

The Eagles are not hurting at the defensive back position considering they have 19 total on their roster, but DeJean is one of the quicker and more versatile ones they have.

DeJean isn't the only one who will miss the start of training camp as safety Sydney Brown is expected to as he continues to rehab his ACL injury.

DeJean Has Made the NFL Transition Look Easy

As a rookie, transitioning from the college football level to the NFL isn't easy, but Dejean has made it seem like it is.

Through OTAs and mandatory minicamps, the Eagles tested DeJean at cornerback, in the slot, and at safety, and according to multiple reports, the rookie looked solid everywhere he lined up.

Since he can handle it, the Eagles said they're going to continue to add more to his plate , rather than give him just one job on defense.

"I think Coop is very versatile," Eagles defensive backs coach Christian Parker told reporters during minicamp. "I think he plays with good vision to the ball. I think that he has good ball skills. I think we’re kind of in that process now we've moved him around a little bit. He can handle it mentally and I think as we move on through this phase right now and going into training camp then he'll have a home but he's been he's playing corner, he's playing nickel, you know, he's handling those things well and we'll continue to put more on his plate and see how he can handle it.”

While DeJean won't be able to participate in training camp practices, you can expect him to be on the sidelines taking notes in the meantime.
