Eagles GM Howie Roseman Sheds Light On WR3 Spot

Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman is focusing on every part of his team's roster.

Roseman has done a masterful job this offseason. He signed the league's most coveted free agent running back Saquon Barkley, and a plethora of other offensive and defensive weapons to make another Super Bowl run. The Eagles GM, however, is known for his "on to the next" mantra. And that goes for every position.

The Eagles have two of the NFL's best wide receivers in A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. Going further down the depth chart, there are some questions as to who will step up and play the WR3 role in the 2024-25 season.

"That's something we're going to be watching daily," Roseman told reporters on Wednesday.

The team begins training camp this week. While that may not excite the general public, it's Roseman's time to sit back and watch several talented options compete.

The expected victor of this internal WR battle would be veteran Parris Campbell. The esteemed sixth-year wideout is capable of hauling in throws across the middle. He's coming off a season with the New York Giants where he had a 74 percent catch rate.

Rookies Johnny Wilson and Ainias Smith should be heavily involved in the competition. Wilson presents a significant frame (6-foot-6, 231 pounds) and finished second on the team behind Buffalo Bills rookie Keon Coleman in catches and receiving yards at Florida St. last season.

Smith is smaller, albeit the most versatile with the highest upside of any on the Eagles' depth chart. He is one of the best punt and kick returners in recent NFL drafts. He averaged 15.0 yards per catch for Texas A&M in 2023, and 10.2 yards per return for his college career. To say that head coach Nick Sirianni or offensive coordinator Kellen Moore won't try to utilize him on jet sweeps occasionally would be foolish.

This could be one of the Eagles' most exciting camps in recent history.

    For Roseman, it's imminent.
