French Fans Make Feelings on Joel Embiid Very Clear After Controversial Olympics Decision

Last fall, Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid faced a major decision.

Born in Cameroon and holding both French and American citizenship, Embiid had an opportunity to choose which country he would represent at the 2024 Paris Olympics. His decision to commit to Team USA sent shockwaves around the basketball world this past October.

With Embiid and the rest of Team USA arriving in Paris on Wednesday ahead of their group stage opener on Sunday, French fans seemingly let the big man hear it.

A video circulating on social media this afternoon appears to show fans heckling the Team USA center.

"As Joel Embiid arrived in Paris with Team USA, he was met with heckles and jeers from French fans," OpenCourt-Basketball posted on X.

Embiid, who in the fall called the decision on which country to represent in the Olympics "tough", said he spoke with the French national team before ultimately making the choice to represent Team USA.

"I love all three options, you know, with my home country, which I love a lot," Embiid said, via ESPN . "But I really want to participate in the Olympics. That's been my goal and my dream.

"It was a tough decision."

Team USA will open up group stage play on Sunday against Serbia.

The matchup between Embiid and Nikola Jokic will certainly be one to watch.
