Jalen Hurts Gets Brutally Honest About Relationship With Eagles HC Nick Sirianni

With the way the Philadelphia Eagles season ended last year — losing six of their last seven games including a 32-9 blowout loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the wild-card round of the playoffs — the tension was palpable between head coach Nick Sirianni and quarterback Jalen Hurts.

But fast forward to the start of training camp and things seem to be patched up between the two, according to Hurts, who seemed to acknowledge the disconnect that existed during Philly’s late-season meltdown.

“I think we're in a great place [now],” Hurts told reporters on Wednesday. “I think any time you have any frustration, any time you have any adversity you have to overcome, it's supposed to test you. I think it's a matter of being on the same page. If you're on the same page we maybe would have accomplished the things we [wanted to last year]. We didn't, but that's a learning experience.”

There’s no denying that there was at least something off between Hurts and Sirianni during mandatory minicamp a few weeks ago.

When pressed about the situation, Hurts gave an ominous response when asked directly about his relationship with the fourth-year coach, taking a long pause before stating “I don’t really know how to answer that.”

Sweeping changes were made to the Eagles’ coaching staff in the offseason. Offensive coordinator Brian Johnson and defensive coordinator Sean Desai were replaced by Kellen Moore and Vic Fangio, respectively, and Sirianni was seemingly put on notice: do better than 2023 or his job could be on the line.

“I know there are different roles in place, everybody has different responsibilities,” Hurts added. “There may be more demands from some than others, but I think to win championships, to be the team we want to be, everyone has to buy into that role and everyone has to be fully committed to doing their part to help the team.”
