Eagles LB Devin White reveals how he's holding AJ Brown and Jalen Hurts accountable

Connection and communication have been a key focus for the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason, and while there have been several team bonding events outside of football, some players are going the extra mile to stay on top of one another and hold each other accountable.

While speaking with reporters during training camp this week, linebacker Devin White revealed that he has a group chat with quarterback Jalen Hurts and wide receiver A.J. Brown.

    The group chat's name? "Accountability."

“I just sent them an empty glass, a picture of an empty glass,” White told reporters following Thursday's practice . “And before they could text back, I just said, ‘Hey, let’s pour into it every day.’ One day at a time, just pour into it. That’s kind of how we started and then everybody chimed in and gave some food of knowledge and we just went from there.”

These core three go way back to high school when they were top recruits in the nation back in 2016. They've been motivating each other ever since, but this is the first time they're all teammates.

“It wasn’t singling them out,” White said of his other Philly teammates. “Those have been my guys already. Not saying that I don’t have new guys but those have been some of the ones that I’m personally close to in the offseason. Both of those guys called me even when I wasn’t on the Eagles and now that I am and checking up on the fam and everything. It’s just a little more personal there with them.”

White wouldn't get into what happened with the Eagles' downfall last season simply because he wasn't around for it.

But you can bet that White is helping to do everything in his power so that the same mistake doesn't happen twice. And that starts with being a great teammate.

“Just how can we pull one another up? And what do you need from me?” White said. “And obviously vice versa with them. Just so this can be a better team and those things don’t happen.

“At the end of the day, it’s a long season but the one thing we’ve been talking about is one day at a time. How can we be better? And make sure we’re pushing everybody and bringing somebody along. Not just getting on to him but bringing somebody with you. If you’re a great player; show them how to be a great player. And we have more great players on the team.”

White, 26, was originally a fifth overall pick out of LSU by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2019 NFL Draft and had been with the team ever since before he entered NFL free agency this offseason and signed with the Birds.

In five seasons with Tampa, White appeared in 76 games, logging 364 tackles, 23 sacks, six forced fumbles, and three interceptions.

Now in Philly, White leads a linebackers group that consists of Nakobe Dean, Zack Baun, Oren Burks, and rookie Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
