Seattle Opera to Present World Premiere of ‘Jubilee’

The new shell has significantly improved the acoustic performance conditions at the venue. Designed and constructed in the Festival’s own workshops, the concert room is a tailored construction consisting of two side walls, a back wall and a ceiling. This also enables musicians to hear each other better, reflecting sound and directing it into the auditorium in a clear, natural and undistorted manner. The construction will be used mainly for orchestral concerts with or without chorus.

In Wednesday’s (7/24) Associated Press, an unsigned report states, “Renowned British conductor John Eliot Gardiner said Wednesday he is quitting the orchestra he has led for six decades, almost a year after he allegedly hit a singer backstage after a concert. Gardiner said he was stepping down as leader and artistic director of the Monteverdi Choir and Orchestra ‘with a heavy heart.’ Gardiner, 81, allegedly hit William Thomas after the bass singer left the podium on the wrong side following a performance of Berlioz’s opera ‘Les Troyens’ at the Festival Berlioz … in southeastern France in August 2023. Gardiner withdrew from all his engagements soon afterwards, saying he was stepping back to get ‘the specialist help I recognize that I have needed for some time.’ He said Wednesday that he had ‘done a great deal of soul searching … and have apologized repeatedly and unreservedly for losing control in such an inappropriate fashion…. Aurora’s pallet shelters for people experiencing homelessness, which only allow a maximum 30-day stay, have been cycling the same individuals in and out, city staff told council members Thursday. Many return to street encampments when their time in the pallet shelter runs out, Jessica Prosser, homeless services director for the city, said. Then, the city sweeps the encampment again, and they get to come back to the shelter for another 30 days, Prosser explained. This process can repeat multiple times.
