Eagles Trade For Intriguing Pass Rusher In This Proposal

The Philadelphia Eagles made some changes to their passing rushing group this offseason. Their most productive player, Haason Reddick, was traded to the New York Jets as he was seeking a new contract.

In free agency, the team signed Bryce Huff away from the Jets to help fill the void left by Reddick’s departure. He will be joining a young group with a lot of upsides, including Josh Sweat and Nolan Smith Jr.

Getting this group back on track will be imperative to the Eagles finding success in 2024. During the 2022 season, a vaunted pass rush is what led the team to so much success.

Last season, the pass rush wasn’t the same. It was one of several factors that played a part in Philadelphia’s defensive production falling off a cliff.

Looking to return to form, the Eagles should get back to one of the things they did in 2022; stockpile pass rushing depth. That is part of the reason why Alex Ballentine of Bleacher Report has suggested an interesting trade for Philadelphia before the season gets underway.

Ballentine has proposed that the team acquire EDGE defender Alex Wright from the Cleveland Browns. To complete the deal, the Eagles would send a fifth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft to the Browns.

“Alex Wright is an under-the-radar name to target. He saw just 38 percent of the snaps for the Browns last season, but he racked up five sacks, six tackles for loss and five quarterback hits.

The Browns boast a pass-rushing rotation that includes Myles Garrett, Za’Darius Smith and Ogbo Okoronkwo so finding more snaps for Wright could be difficult. Taking advantage of their depth by adding a pick could be something the Browns would be interested in,” Ballentine wrote.

Adding some reinforcements to the defensive line that can help in the present and future would make a lot of sense for Philadelphia. The depth chart could look vastly different after 2024.

While Smith and Huff have deals that will keep them with the team for years to come, the same cannot be said about Josh Sweat. He is on an expiring contract and could become a trade piece ahead of the deadline.

Veteran Brandon Graham announced last week that the 2024 campaign would be his last season in the NFL. Acquiring someone such as Wright would help the Eagles continue to rebuild its depth on the edge.
