PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Phillies will don a new patch on their jerseys during Wednesday’s home game against the Yankees.

The Phillies announced Independence Blue Cross as the team’s first official jersey patch partner, expanding the partnership between the organization and the health insurer.

The blue IBX logo will be adorned on the left sleeve of home and away jerseys, as well as City Connect, spring training and postseason jerseys.

“Independence Blue Cross has been stitched into the fabric of our community for more than 85 years and is as much of a hometown team as the Philadelphia Phillies,” Phillies managing partner and CEO John Middleton said in a statement. “We are excited to celebrate IBX, an invaluable partner for nearly four decades, as our inaugural jersey patch sponsor.”

Independence Blue Cross President and CEO Gregory Deavens said working with the Phillies is an evolution of a friendship and a partnership.

“We’re like-minded organizations,” he added. “We’re very supportive of this community and when we first got together, we talked about what are some things we could do together in the community to promote health and well-being.”

In addition to sponsorships and nonprofit initiatives, the two organizations said their partnership will offer Blue Cross members and associates exclusive discounts on tickets and merch. The suite level at Citizens Bank Park will also be renamed as the Independence Blue Cross Suite Level.
