76ers ‘interested’ in signing sharp-shooting big man with final roster spot

The Philadelphia 76ers are left with a final roster slot to fill prior to the beginning of the regular season.

A knockdown shooter in their frontcourt could be a major benefit, considering the rather weak floor stretching of Andre Drummond and Adem Bona. Davis Bertans, who was cut by the Charlotte Hornets earlier this offseason, fits this desired mold.

According to The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Keith Pompey , the Sixers are expressing interest in Bertans, along with hometown hero Marcus Morris.

“During the regular season, they’ll look to carry 14 players and keep one roster spot open. As a result, they’ll likely add only one more player,” Pompey wrote. “So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the Sixers are interested in obtaining the 6-foot-8, 218-pounder for that spot. According to sources, 6-10 sharpshooter Dāvis Bertāns is another player they are interested in acquiring.”

Bertans split his time last year between the Oklahoma City Thunder and Charlotte Hornets. The 6-foot-10 forward averaged 6.7 points on 38% from 3-point range. He leaves much to be desired on the interior of both ends, but it shouldn’t matter much with how the rest of the Sixers’ roster is constructed.

Considering Philadelphia’s cannot offer much more than a veteran minimum contract, Bertans seems like an excellent in a frontcourt run by Joel Embiid.
