In a recent appearance on the Pivot Podcast , newly signed Eagles linebacker Devin White revealed he turned down more lucrative offers to join Philadelphia, emphasizing his desire to find the right fit over maximizing his earnings.

White, who spent his first five NFL seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, explained his decision-making process during free agency.

"When free agency started, I got some bigger offers from other teams," White said. "But I wanted to do a one-year deal because I need to get what I'm worth at the end of the day."

The 26-year-old linebacker is looking to bounce back after a challenging 2023 season in Tampa Bay, which saw him benched and falling out of favor with the coaching staff. White sees Philadelphia as the perfect opportunity to retool his career while potentially helping the Eagles reach the Super Bowl.

"I took less because I felt like it was a better situation," White explained. "It ain't even about the money, never been about the money. It's just about the right situation, the right environment, and being able to have fun."

Since joining the Eagles, White has quickly established himself as a leader on defense. He gets that opportunity to lead with old friends AJ Brown and Jalen Hurts. If he takes any leadership notes from them, the Eagles should know they got a stud at linebacker for cheap.

Landing a player of White's caliber — a former Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion — addresses a long-standing need at the linebacker position. If White can recapture his top form in 2024, it could prove to be a win-win situation, potentially earning him a lucrative long-term contract while bolstering Philadelphia's championship aspirations.
