The Philadelphia Phillies (68-46) needed a victory on Wednesday night to win the series against the Los Angeles Dodgers (66-49), which would give them their first series victory in seven tries. After being down 4-1 through the first two innings, the Phillies would storm back to win 9-4.

    Holding Ohtani in Check

The Phillies pitching staff did a spectacular job of holding superstar DH Shohei Ohtani in check this season. In the six games these teams have played against each other, Ohtani has only hit 5-for-22 with one home run, four strikeouts and only one walk.

Holding Ohtani in check has been a massive accomplishment for the Phillies pitching staff this season. The superstar is a perennial MVP candidate, so it is no small feat to keep him out of the highlights.

    Ending the Skid

It has been a rough row to hoe for the Phillies for the better part of a month, but things seem to be back on track. Winning three of their last four, and having the pitching and hitting show up on the same night multiple times in a row is a promising sign that the extended rough patch is over and the Phillies are back to being the best team in the sport.

    WPA Leader of the Night

Wednesday's WPA leader of the night is the man that drove the charge, Kyle Schwarber . Schwarber would start the night with his 11th lead off home run of the season, and 25th overall, giving the Phillies a 1-0 lead.

He would take his second plate appearance of the night with the Phillies now down 4-1, and draw a walk, his 82nd of the season.

Schwarber would come to the plate next in the top of the fifth with two runners on and one out. This at bat would result in a two-RBI double, his 13th double of the season.

His next at bat would come just one innings later, with the Phillies and Dodgers tied at four each. The bases were loaded and there were two outs. A wild pitch would score Marsh, before Schwarber would hit his second home run of the night, and 26th of the season, putting the Phillies up 8-4.

Schwarber would take his last at bat of the night leading off the top of the 9th. He would send a 1-1 cutter to center field for his third home run of the night, 27th of the season, and 7th RBI of the night.

Schwarber's line for Wednesday night reads 4-for-4, three home runs, one double, seven RBI, three runs, and one walk. His WPA score for the night was 51.2.

    Next Up

Next up for the Phillies is the first of four with the Arizona Diamondbacks (62-52) on Thursday. The first pitch for Thursday's game is scheduled for 9:40 PM EST. The game will be broadcast on NBC Sports Philadelphia and Arizona Diamondbacks.

Phillies fans can listen to the game on 94 WIP or WTTM 1680.
