PHILIPPI, W.Va. (WBOY) — The West Virginia State Police will be conducting a sobriety check in Philippi next weekend to deter drunk and otherwise impaired drivers.

According to a press release, troopers from the Philippi detachment will hold the checkpoint on Saturday, July 27 from 6 p.m. until midnight. It will be located on Barbour County Highway/U.S. 250 between 1.1 miles south of S. Main Street and 1.4 miles north of State Route 38 near the Dairy King of Philippi.

Drivers who want to avoid the checkpoint can use Lander Road.

Another DUI checkpoint at the same location was held earlier this year on April 25.

Although illegal in some states, sobriety checkpoints are held relatively often in West Virginia as a way to make roads safer.
