Dad dies after being trapped under car for hours — and bystanders robbed him

A dad died after being crushed to death while trying to fix his family's car - and bystanders robbed him rather than helping him, his family have claimed.

Jeronimo Garcia Guerra was possibly stuck under the car for hours before someone called emergency services, according to police. The incident happened in a parking lot in Phoenix, Arizona, after the jack collapsed.

His family have claimed that, by the time police arrived, thieves had stolen everything from his pockets, the car he was working on had been looted and the one he arrived in had been stolen.

His son Jerry Garcia told AZFAmily : "He always believed nobody out there is going to help you. In this situation, he was right."

Guerra drove his daughter's car to the parking lot after his wife's vehicle broke down, wanting to try and fix it. Daughter Monica Garcia said his dad got there at about 9.45am, but that police were not called until about noon.

She told the NY Post : “Who knows when the car really fell on him. Who knows how long he’s been under there.

"After everything, they went through my dad’s pockets and my mom’s car and they saw them leave with my car. It’s hard because I would never do that to somebody. I could care less about my car but at least they could have stayed there with him until help came."

The daughter - who lives less than two miles away from where the incident happened - criticized the passers-by who saw the car fall on top of his father and those that stole from him while he was trapped under the vehicle.

Ms Garcia's car was then found abandoned nearby. No arrests have been made and police enquiries are ongoing.

A Gofundme page has been launched to help his family with funeral costs. It has so far raised more than $2,500.

A post on the page says: "On June 17, 2024 Jeronimo Garcia Guerra, (beloved husband, father, Tata, father-in-law, and friend) lost his life in an accident while repairing a vehicle (with extenuating circumstances).

"We are asking for help as we are preparing to lay him to rest. He leaves behind his wife Margarita, two children, Monica (Ramiro) and little Margarita and Michael (Mijo), and Jerry (April). Any help at this time would be grateful."
