Indiana Fever Star Receives Flagrant Foul For Hard Hit on Diana Taurasi

The Indiana Fever and Phoenix Mercury are engaged in what has been a supremely exciting (and intense) WNBA game on Sunday.

Thus far, there have already been six technical fouls called in the game.

And the most recent one came at the expense of WNBA and Mercury legend Diana Taurasi.

At one point in the second quarter, Taurasi was making a cut while the Mercury were on offense.

She was approaching Fever player NaLyssa Smith when Smith stuck her arm out and appeared to hit Taurasi in the stomach or rib cage area.

    Tuarasi immediately winced in pain.

The play was initially called a common foul. But after a video review, it was deemed a Flagrant 1 foul on Smith.

Fans don't seem convinced that Smith deserved a flagrant foul for what appeared to be a normal basketball play against Taurasi.

"lol Smith just got a flagrant bc Taurasi ran into her arm," one X user wrote.

"Diana Taurasi is a flop artist. that’s an egregious flagrant call," another fan wrote.

Perhaps Taurasi's incredible WNBA career makes it so she receives these sorts of suspect calls.
