DiJonai Carrington Shared Honest Thoughts on Brittney Griner Ahead of Monday's Game

DiJonai Carrington has a tough matchup ahead on Monday night. Carrington and the Connecticut Sun take on the Phoenix Mercury .

Some of the focus for the Mercury is on a backcourt led by top WNBA guards Kahleah Copper and Diana Taurasi . Still, it's Phoenix center Brittney Griner who could be the difference in this matchup.

The last time Connecticut and Phoenix played, Griner was out with injury. She's back for this game.

On Monday, Carrington discussed how Griner's availability changes the matchup.

"She changes it completely. The Mercury's a very different team with and without her. They're great regardless, but you know she's gonna be one of the greatest to have ever played in this game. So, just the impact that she makes offensively, defensively, she alters shots at the rim, she just makes you think twice when you go in the paint."

Both Griner and Carrington played basketball for the Baylor Bears in college. Carrington played just one season at Baylor after playing at Stanford prior to transferring.

Clearly, Carrington carries a ton of admiration for Griner leading up to the game. Connecticut likely will have game planned with the Phoenix center in mind in preparation for the difficult matchup.

The Mercury and Fever play Monday night at 10 p.m. ET.
