The Phoenix Mercury fell to the Indiana Fever on Sunday in an exciting game that came down to the wire. All eyes were on the first WNBA battle between Caitlin Clark and Diana Taurasi, and the individual matchup did not disappoint.

Finishing a rebound shy of the first rookie triple-double in league history, Clark ended the game with 15 points, 12 assists, and nine rebounds. Out-dueling the veteran Taurasi who finished with 19 points, three assists, and three rebounds, Clark was able to lead Indiana to their first victory over a winning team this season.

Ahead of their game on Monday against the Connecticut Sun, Phoenix announced that Taurasi is questionable to play due to back soreness:

At age 42, Taurasi has 547 career WNBA games under her belt, and 16,813 career minutes played. Because of this, Phoenix will be cautious with their star guard, wanting to ensure she is healthy when it matters most.

Sitting at an even 9-9 on the season, Phoenix currently owns the sixth best record in the WNBA, which would land them a playoff spot if the season ended now. Because of this, Phoenix will want to make sure they preserve Taurasi's health throughout the course of the season, which makes her questionable status on Monday understandable.

Following Monday's battle with Clark and the Fever, Taurasi is averaging 16.6 points per game on the season.

Sharing a moment with Clark prior to tip-off, Taurasi showed respect to the rookie who has looked up to her, which was special to see. The two star guards both played great, with Clark and Indiana coming out on top.
