The Phoenix Mercury are on a skid again after losing to Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever (88-82) on Sunday and to the Connecticut Sun (83-72) on Monday.

One of the most glaring details about the Mercury’s loss to Connecticut was the massive disparity in rebounding. The Sun pulled down 37 rebounds, while Phoenix recorded only 18 boards .

Sun forward Alyssa Thomas dominated the glass with a game-high 12 rebounds, while four other Connecticut players had at least four boards.

After the game, Mercury head coach Nate Tibbets opened up about his team’s letdown performance in the rebounding department.

“Yeah, we were a little bit outsized at times. I thought down the stretch especially, fatigue kind of kicked in a little bit at the second effort-type play, Tibbets told reporters during the postgame press conference following the loss to the Sun (h/t Aya Abdeen of The Next).

“So obviously we know as a group, we have to do better on the glass. That team was a tough team, that's what they do. They dominate the paint and they want it tonight.”

Even Brittney Griner couldn’t do much on the glass versus Thomas and company, as she only finished with two rebounds to go along with 21 points on 9/17 shooting from the field.

Rebounding has been an ongoing problem for the Mercury, who dropped to 9-10 after yet another setback at the hands of Connecticut. On the season, Phoenix is just 10th in the WNBA with a 48.7 percent rebound rate .
