Thousands of residents lost power Sunday night after severe monsoon winds knocked down 27 power poles in northeast Phoenix, Arizona Public Service announced.

At the height of the storm, around 9:30 p.m. Sunday, approximately 3,000 customers were without power, APS spokesperson Yessica del Rincon said. Backup supply units build into the power grid helped APS crews restore power to everyone in 2.5 hours, APS said.

There were 27 power poles toppled by the wind, causing the outages. Crews began assessing damage, clearing debris and preparing the area for repairs Monday, according to APS.

Crews were expected to begin installing new power poles Tuesday morning.
