    Good morning, Arizona. Here's what our reporters are working on and what you should know before you start your day.

    Health care providers and police agencies in metro Phoenix were scrambling after a global software outage involving Microsoft systems led to widespread disruptions.

    Flights at Sky Harbor Airport were also delayed or canceled and Circle K point-of-service terminals were reported down.

    Here are just some of the events on this date in the past.

    • On this day in 1903: The world’s first Tour de France concluded with cyclist Maurice Garin winning.
    • In 1940: The British Intelligence Corps was created by Army Order 112 after being granted the consent of King George V. It is a military intelligence gathering and security force that worked with Special Operations Executive during World War II.
    • In 1943: In the first of many bombings, the U.S. Army Air Forces dropped 9,125 bombs on railway yards in the San Lorenzo district of the city of Rome using 690 aircrafts. The destruction leveled city blocks and killed 1,500 people.
    • In 1977: The world’s first global positioning signal, or GPS, was received. Atop of a building in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Rockwell Collins engineer David Van Dusseldorp was able to grab a satellite signal from the orbiting Navigation Technology Satellite 2.
    • In 1980: Over 60 countries, including the U.S., Canada, Japan and China, boycotted the Summer Olympics in Moscow to protest the Soviet Union’s invasion of Afghanistan the prior year. It was one of the largest boycotts in Olympic history.
    • In 2007: The first episode of “Mad Men” premiered on AMC. Created by Matthew Weiner, the show was set in a fictional advertising agency in the 1960s, and tackled themes of identity, racism, sexism, masculinity and social mobility. It was critically and commercially successful, running for 7 seasons and winning multiple awards.
