    Going to the grocery store can be a chore, but a supermarket that feels familiar and stocks all your favorites can make the necessity much more enjoyable.

    The Phoenix metro has a wide variety of types of grocery stores, ranging from locally-based large chains like Sprouts Farmers Market to superstores like Walmart and Target, smaller footprint stores like Aldi, and traditional food stores like Fry’s and Safeway.

    As Kroger Co., the parent company of Fry’s Food Stores, irons out details in the acquisition of Albertsons Cos., which owns Albertsons and Safeway stores, Arizona’s grocery store offerings will likely shift. Kroger stands to acquire 34 Arizona Albertsons and Safeway grocery stores and will sell 101 others to C&S Wholesale Grocers, the company that operates Piggly Wiggly supermarkets and other brands.
