The Wayward Taphouse located on the corner of Grand and 11th avenues is closing in September after four years.

Owners Tyler Goolie and Hilda Cardenas worked at Wren House Brewing Company until branching off to open their own shop in late 2020. The bar's patio is part of a cluster of cottages that house businesses including Novel Ice Cream and Remix coffee and sandwich shop.

In an Instagram post dated July 20, the owners wrote how "incredibly saddened" they were to be closing in September.

"Unfortunately, the landlords have decided to go in a different direction and we will not be renewing our lease. We are devastated to leave the community we’ve built here on Grand Avenue, but when some doors close others open. We want to thank everyone who has supported us throughout the years. We’ve loved sharing our space with our customers and we wouldn’t have made it a success without y’all."

    Fans lamented the loss

The first few replies came from fellow food industry accounts such as Monsoon Market, which commented: "we are going to throw a tantrum 😭"

Customers also voiced disappointment. Daniela Garza wrote: "I don’t want to like this post. But I’ve had the best conversations, best beers, found a special person at Wayward…thank you for the memories. Can’t wait to support and visit what you land next!"

The bar invited fans to: "Stay tuned to what’s next! In the meantime, come hang out and grab a pint. Let’s make some final ever-lasting memories."

Wayward Taphouse will remain open until September.
