    Good morning, Arizona. Here's what our reporters are working on and what you should know before you start your day.

    Construction across highways in the Phoenix area will cause closures and detours through the upcoming weekend , according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

    Portions of Interstate 17 and Loop 101 will close entirely, while Interstate 10 and U.S. 60 will remain open but restricted in certain areas .

    Here's what you need to know to detour around weekend traffic .

    Residents near 35th Avenue and Buckeye Road in Phoenix were suffering Friday having gone without power since 9 p.m. Wednesday when a storm downed APS power poles .

    ➤ A Buckeye chemical company that leaked nitric acid into the air in late June is now under investigation after Arizona environmental officials announced the company has been found to have multiple safety and environmental violations .

    Here are just some of the events on this date in the past.

    • On this day in 1921 : Surgeon Frederick Banting and medical student Charles Best successfully isolated the sugar-regulating hormone insulin in a lab at the University of Toronto. Months later, with the help of biochemist John Macleod, an insulin treatment was created and tested on humans. The discovery revolutionized diabetes treatment, saving countless lives. Banting and Macleod were both awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for their work.
    • In 1940 : Bugs Bunny was first introduced in his fully realized incarnation with the release of the Warner Bros.’ Looney Tunes animated short film “A Wild Hare.” Previous prototypes of Bugs appeared in various cartoons.
    • In 1953 : The Korean Armistice Agreement was signed by the U.S., China and North Korea, ending armed hostilities and bringing an unofficial end to the Korean War. However, Syngman Rhee, president of South Korea, refused to sign the armistice but instead vowed to observe it.
    • In 1974 : The first article of impeachment ― for obstruction of justice ― against President Richard Nixon was passed by the House Judiciary Committee on a vote of 27-11. Two more articles were passed a few days later. Nixon resigned in early August 1974.
    • In 1981 : A 6-year-old, Adam John Walsh, was abducted from a department store at the Hollywood Mall in Hollywood, Florida. His remains were later found in a canal. His death led his father, John Walsh, to become an advocate for child victims and the creation of the long-running TV show “America’s Most Wanted.”
    • In 1995 : The Korean War Veterans Memorial, located on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., was dedicated.
