Diamondbacks announcer Steve Berthiaume makes embarrassing ‘moron’ mistake

Looks who’s the moron after all.

On Monday, Arizona Diamondbacks broadcaster Steve Berthiaume made a frivolous mistake that sent social media skyrocketing.

The Diamondbacks trailed the Nationals by six runs in the third inning when the broadcast returned from a break, showing a group of teenagers hollering excitedly.

Berthiaume’s eyes caught one shirt in particular.

“Alright, I found my new favorite T-shirt ever,” Berthiaume said. “The guy on the right [whose shirt read], ‘I can’t, I’m a moron.’ There it is, on tape and everything for the director. They’ll use that and wear it out.”

However, his eyes didn’t catch that the shirt actually read, “I can’t, I’m a Mormon.”

“Now you gotta get the Jomboy team to make that shirt and send him one,” one user wrote on X after the footage surfaced.

“I’m a Mormon and I can’t stop laughing,” another added , accompanied by a crying laughing emoji.

One user took a more satirical approach, “This comment perfectly describes the entire career of Steve Berthiaume.”

The shirt represents a joke that exemplifies the strict parameters Mormons follow. Followers believe in a way of life that encourages them to take care of their bodies and health, which means staying away from activities, including drinking, drugs, sex, swearing and gambling, along with other entities.

Perhaps Berthiaume’s mistake was made at the right time, though. After the error, the Diamondbacks rallied their way to a 9-8 victory.

He also made a thrilling call on Corbin Carroll’s first-ever walk-off home run.

“It’s gone! It’s gone,” he belted. “And they walk it off. They were down 6-0, and they win 9-8!”
