Get some bratwurst and spaetzle with a pint of doppelbock at Edelweiss Biergarten

There are only so many places to get good German food in the Valley, but if you're looking to wash down some bratwurst and spaetzle with a cold märzen, Edelweiss Biergarten is your spot.

State of play: Edelweiss Biergarten restaurant is in north Phoenix at 2625 E. Bell Road.

    • The German-Hungarian restaurant opened in 2018 , taking over a location previously occupied by the Western-themed bar Wagon Yard.

What to expect: As one would assume from a restaurant that promises "a taste of Oktoberfest all year round," Edelweiss offers a wide variety of sausage, schnitzel and specialties like cheese-topped spaetzle — a type of central European egg noodle — and German and Hungarian stews.

    • Edelweiss is also well-stocked with pilsners, lagers, hefeweizens, dunkels and other German beers.
    • And Wednesdays through Sundays, enjoy your beer and bratwurst to the sounds of live accordion music by Larry Roberts .

Best bites: It was a tough choice with the tokány, a black pepper pork stew with bacon and cream sauce, but I went with the pörkölt, a pork and beef stew served over spaetzle.

    • Best brews: To wash it down, I got an Andechs doppelbock, a "world famous Bockbier from the Holy Mountain in Bavaria."
    • The stew was packed with flavor and the meat was super tender. The dark, malty beer provided a perfect complement.
