Did you know that the World's granite capital is in our very own state of Georgia? It's true!

Located in Northeast Georgia, about 33 miles east of Athens and 110 miles east of Atlanta, the city of Elberton is known as the World's Granite Capital.

Around the city, you can find beautiful lakes, several well cared for parks and of course many granite monuments and the 20,000-seat granite bowl stadium.

The Granite Bowl is the city's stadium for both the soccer and football team of the Elberton County Blue Devils.

The Granite Bowl gets its name due to the stadium being made of over 100,000 tons of blue granite.

The only expense to build the new new stadium was the materials to build the press box and concrete. The granite for the project was costless because remember Elberton is the "Granite Capital of the World".

Also for all of you Georgia Bulldog fans (Go Dawgs! Sorry I just had too), the same scoreboard that is located at the Granite Bowl is the same scoreboard that was used at Sanford Stadium during Georgia's 1980 National Championship Season.

Now back to the granite facts!

The Elberton Granite Deposit is over 35 miles long, 6 miles in width and around 2 to 3 miles deep.

It is believed that the total amount of granite in the area of Elberton is around 6 million tons. This amount of granite could fill the Rose Bowl up nearly 2 million times.

Elberton produces more granite monuments than any other city or place in the world.
