iFAB Awarded $51 Million Grant to Propel Biomanufacturing
URBANA, Ill. — The Illinois Fermentation and Agriculture Biomanufacturing (iFAB) Tech Hub has been awarded approximately $51 million from the Tech Hubs Program through the Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration. The iFAB consortium, led by the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, will receive a Phase 2 Implementation grant to position Central Illinois as a global leader in biomanufacturing and precision fermentation, supporting national security, economic growth, and job generation.

PIATT, IL, (July 06, 2024) - Two people have died as a result of a car crash in Piatt County on Saturday, which Illinois State Police said was caused by an impaired driver. According to troopers and the Piatt County Coroner's Office, the collision occurred at around 6 p.m. east of Bement and involved a Toyota Corolla and a Ford Edge.

A year-long campaign to promote biomanufacturing in central Illinois has paid off for the University of Illinois and its partners. The U-S Commerce Department’s Economic Development Administration has awarded approximately $51 million grant to a consortium led by the University of Illinois, to establish the Illinois Fermentation and Agriculture Biomanufacturing (or iFAB) tech hub in Champaign, Piatt and Macon Counties.

UPDATE: Man cited for driving under influence after fatal accident in Piatt County
BEMENT — A Hammond man has been cited for driving under the influence of alcohol in connection with a fatal car crash that killed two people on Saturday in Piatt County. Levi A. Tull, 23, was issued a citation for driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs and disobeying a stop sign, Illinois State Police Trooper Jayme Bufford said. Piatt County court records show he has not been formally charged in relation to the fatal incident.
