Picayune Hosts 3rd Annual Independence Day Celebration

On Thursday, the City of Picayune held its 3rd Annual Independence Day celebration, featuring a nearly 20-minute fireworks show choreographed to music by Glydewell Pyrotechnics. The event also showcased musical performances by Eric Sharp, New Direction, and Ross Grisham, with the National Anthem sung by 15-year-old Poplarville native Anna Davis.

Lisa Albritton, who oversees special projects for the city, explained that the event’s origins date back to its creation by Justin Glydewell, Hannah Pierce, Jill Smith, and herself—the inaugural year focused solely on a fireworks display.

“In the second year, we added a stage with live music and synchronized the fireworks show to music,” Albritton said.

This year’s celebration included more bands, children’s activities, and a variety of vendors, enhancing the community experience.

Albritton expressed gratitude to the vendors, attendees, and city departments that contributed to the event’s success.

Trevor Adam, the Parks and Recreation director, highlighted the extensive planning involved. “This was an event that took several months of meetings between different city departments, and it wouldn’t be possible without their cooperation,” Adam said.

“We want to thank everyone involved and hope everyone excited about it was entertained and had fun,” Adam added. “We are extremely grateful for all the sponsors because none of this would be possible without them. And, of course, a shout-out to Glydewell Pyrotechnics.”
