Pearl River County SPCA Announces Expansion of HOPE Thrift Store

The Pearl River County SPCA is announcing the expansion of the HOPE Thrift Store, a project that has grown significantly since its inception. Initially a monthly yard sale during the COVID-19 pandemic, the store has become a vital community resource, supporting shelter animals. This idea, led by PRCSPCA President Lauren Fitts, has evolved with substantial community support and dedication.

Opened in September 2023 at 601 W Canal, the HOPE Thrift Store’s success quickly necessitated further expansion. In January 2024, a second location at 114 Elizabeth St. was opened. The two stores are now being consolidated into a larger, 3,750 sq/ft space at 245 Frontage Rd. This move will allow for more inventory and customer space and increase the store’s capacity to support the shelter. The new location’s grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place on Saturday, July 27.

All proceeds from the HOPE Thrift Store directly benefit the Pearl River County SPCA, providing care and shelter for homeless animals. Until now, the store has been entirely volunteer-run. However, with the expansion and increased hours of operation, part-time staff have been hired to manage the growth and ensure continued success.

Lauren Fitts stated, “I couldn’t have done any of this alone. We are successful due to many volunteers along the way and those who continue to show up, helping in every way they can.”

Community members are encouraged to donate resalable items during regular business hours at the new location, which is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. While the store does not accept clothing or shoes, other resalable items are appreciated and help support the shelter’s mission.

The grand opening event on July 27 will celebrate the new location.
