More than 200 paintings were on display with at least 25 pieces of art earning ribbons in the second annual Best of Pickaway County High Schools Art Show held recently at Pickaway County’s ArtsaRound Gallery.

“This show is an opportunity for local art students to show what they can do. I’m always impressed by the level of talent of the students,” ArtsaRound Gallery Coordinator Steve Sawyer said.

The schools participating this year are Circleville, Teays Valley, Westfall, and Logan Elm.

Each student was allowed to present up to two pieces that were judged by a panel of three judges. The level of talent is impressive. The judges grade on a 1-5 scale and over a dozen pieces have been rated a 5. Ribbons were awarded to the top three pieces in each category. Additionally, there was a “Best of Show” award for the top three pieces in the show.

Logan Elm won the trophy for the People’s Choice Award which was voted on by visitors to the gallery. Trophy was presented to Logan Elm High School art teacher Heath Bennett by ArtsaRound board president Dale Herron.

The trophy that was taken home by Logan Elm will be back at the gallery next April for next year’s winner to take home. Winning the trophy is a team effort between the artists and visitors. Visitor votes determine who takes home the trophy.

Best of Show winners were Logan Tucker (1st, Logan Elm), Curtis Hix (2nd, Teays Valley) and Michael Charter (3rd, Teays Valley). They will be receiving gift cards from the money raised in the voting process.

Artists who won ribbons were Marlo Smith, Danica Disbennett, Maggie Wilson, Logan Tucker, Bekah Jenkins, Olivia Bright, and Keegan Kidd.

“Credit goes to the art teachers who are guiding the students,” Sawyer said. “This is our second year. The number of students participating has grown substantially.”
