( KRON ) — A Piedmont Police Department (PPD) officer was injured after a stolen SUV crashed into a patrol vehicle Monday morning, the department announced on Facebook . Piedmont police initially received a report of a stolen Chevy Suburban entering the city.

Officers then spotted the SUV on Warfield Avenue and attempted a traffic stop, PPD said. However, the driver of the stolen vehicle “intentionally” drove the car in reverse to crash into a patrol vehicle with an officer inside.

The collision caused the airbags to be deployed and injured one of the officers inside, according to police. The suspect then rammed the front of another police vehicle (pictured below) and continued to drive away on Wildwood Avenue.

Police later found the Chevy unoccupied on the 300 block of Wildwood Avenue. PPD said the suspect then ran down into a ravine.

As of Monday afternoon, the suspect remains at large.

According to PPD, the suspect is described as a “white or Hispanic male,” approximately 5-foot-6 tall and weighs 160 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black “puffy hoodie” with red lining and dark pants.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to contact PPD at 510-420-3000.
