Country music star Phil Vassar is excited to get back on the road and perform for fans at the Pierz Freedom Fest on Saturday, July 20.

Vassar, who first broke into the country music scene in the 1990s and 2000s, took some time off from touring recently but says he’s now feeling re-energized and ready to entertain crowds once again.

“It’s good for you to kind of clear your head and kind of really start over again, and sort of come at it with a different perspective,” Vassar said. “There’s something about that space that gives you a little bit of a new perspective, and you write new songs and you feel different about things. I think it’s important as artists, you kind of have to because if you don’t, you just sort of write the same thing, and that gets boring. It really does, like ‘Man, I’m bored with my songs.’ So it’s good to be excited again about creating. That’s very cool for a songwriter and an artist to be doing new things, new music, with a new approach. And so I’m excited about that.”

Vassar discussed his upcoming performance at the patriotic summer festival in Pierz. He said festivals like this that celebrate America and the summer season are a perfect fit for country music. Vassar enjoys the upbeat, festive atmosphere and getting to see fans sing along to his hits.

As a songwriter, Vassar finds it extremely rewarding to watch audiences connect with the songs he’s penned over the years. He writes music that feels good and aims to convey positive themes of American pride and good times. While country music styles come and go, Vassar believes the genre’s core message remains the same – one of fun, positivity and unity.

“It’s just a good time,” Vassar said. “I think everybody’s usually in a good frame of mind and in a good mood. And that’s why I like it. There’s a lot of laughing and a lot of singing. That makes what we do worth it. It’s so fun just to write songs and just kind of sit there when everybody starts taking it and singing it back to you. That’s what makes it fun.”

When asked about current projects, Vassar expressed excitement over new music he’s been working on as well as collaborations with fellow singer and songwriter Jeffrey Steele. He finds creativity and collaboration with trusted peers reinvigorating. Vassar also continues to draw inspiration from spending quality time with his two daughters, Haley and Presley, away from the road.

Fans can expect to hear Vassar’s signature upbeat hits, such as “Just Another Day in Paradise” and “American Child,” when he takes the stage at Pierz Freedom Fest. After recharging from touring, the seasoned performer is raring to get in front of crowds once more and help celebrate America with a night of feel-good country music. The festival is sure to be a can’t-miss summer event.

Vassar will perform at the Pierz Freedom Fest Saturday, July 20 at 8 p.m. Preceding his performance will be Mason Dixon Line at 4 p.m. and Lauren Watkins at 6 p.m., with headliner Chase Rice following Vassar at 10 p.m. Gates open at 3 p.m.

The Pierz Freedom Fest will take place at the Genola ball fields, one mile south of Pierz on Highway 25. Tickets can be purchased online at www.pierzfreedomfest.com, with advanced general admission tickets being sold for $65 until Sunday, July 7. After that point, general admission tickets will be sold for $75 until the day of the fest or until they sell out.
