Career criminal accused of attacking child in 2017 finally gets busted

A man accused of attacking a young child was nabbed Tuesday on a six-and-a-half-year-old arrest warrant.

Craig Clarence Fellersen, 47, lived on Paraiso Lane in Acacia Crossings when in 2017 he was charged with aggravated assault, adult-on-child under age 15. The felony charge carries a 35-year prison sentence for Fellerson because of his lengthy criminal history.

A Pinal County Superior Court judge in January 2018 issued a warrant for Fellerson’s arrest after he didn’t appear for a hearing, according to court documents. In January 2023, Pinal County Superior Court Judge Karen F. Palmer reviewed, upheld and extended the warrant until 2025.

But it wasn’t until Tuesday when Fellersen was arrested and booked into the Pinal County Jail where he remains on a $2,500 bond, according to the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office. His next hearing is scheduled for Tuesday.

Fellersen has a criminal record longer than a Ken Burns documentary, starting at age 18 when he was charged with terroristic threatening, obstruction and underage drinking. He has since been charged with burglary, counterfeiting, fraud, assault and plenty of DUIs.

In 2018, a few months after a Pinal County judge issued a warrant for his arrest, Fellersen was charged and convicted of wire fraud in Fairmont, Minn.

Fellerson stole a man’s credit card and spent $2,173 on video games, a cell phone, two iPads, clothing and shoes. Police discovered he was using meth at the time. Two months later, he was also convicted on three counts of disorderly conduct.

In 2020, Fellersen was convicted on burglary charges, also in Minnesota.

Pinal County Attorney’s Office spokesman Mike Pelton could not immediately answer why Fellerson’s Pinal County warrant was never served during his midwestern crime spree.

“We have switched case management systems several times since this case was originally charged,” Pelton said.
