SIU-Carbondale Chancellor Austin Lane talks about enrollment, bonuses and administrative stability
The Fall Semester at SIU-Carbondale starts on August 19. WSIU's Brad Palmer caught up with SIU-Carbondale Chancellor Austin Lane last week. Chancellor Lane updated the SIU Board of Trustees earlier this month on the enrollment picture for the campus, which he said includes a 14% increase currently in new students. He starts out talking about the 3.4% increase in summer enrollment.
Mobile home damaged by fire in rural Ina
A fire at a mobile home in rural Ina on Sunday morning was confined to one bedroom and its contents. The fire was at the Luke Tennant residence in the 13,000 block of East Wheaton Road. Jefferson Fire reports Tennant and one other person was home at the time the fire was spotted around 5:40 Sunday morning. Both were able to escape without injury.
Steven Curtis Chapman Chosen As Next Grand Ole Opry Member
A western Kentucky native and multi-Grammy and GMA Award-winning artist will soon be the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry. During Saturday night’s live show, Cordell, Kentucky native Ricky Skaggs invited Steven Curtis Chapman, from Paducah, to be the newest member of the famed ‘Home of Country Music.’

Bristol Broadcasting and our staff are mourning the loss of one of our own, the Orange Man Craig Hayden. Hayden was a fixture of WKYQ in its rise. He had a tremendous voice and a natural ease behind the microphone. Hayden recently returned to Paducah and we were blessed to have him back on the airwaves until his passing on Wednesday.
