After witnessing her parents suffer from addiction, Felicia Gonsalez swore she’d never touch drugs. But when her 18-year-long marriage ended in a difficult divorce, Gonsalez began dating a man who struggled with substance use and soon found herself using opioids. Within a matter of months, she lost her job, her house, and her car to her addiction. The then Pueblo resident tried to recover dozens of times over the next three and a half years, but it wasn’t until after Gonsalez gave birth to her third child in 2021 that she admitted herself into a rehabilitation program. She’s been sober ever since.
Wildfire smoke may compound the front range’s ozone problem this week
Haze and smoke settled into the front range last week, and it’s about to get worse. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment issued its second action day alert in two days this week. The alert comes on the heels of a forecast that shows PM 2.5, a category of particulate matter that includes the most harmful components of wildfire smoke, rising into the unhealthy for sensitive groups designation on the EPA’s Air Quality Index tomorrow.

Blue-green algae in Sloan's Lake kills hundreds to thousands of fish, poses health risk
Team members from Denver Parks and Recreation cleaned up around 400 black crappie carcasses from Sloan's Lake on Monday. Sloan’s Lake Park Foundation, nonprofit organization committed to restoring the popular Denver lake, estimated that around 2,000 fish have died over the past week and that 400 are still floating in it, according to Staff Member Kurt Weaver.
United Airlines no longer employs flight attendant from Terrell Davis incident
Former Denver Broncos running back Terrell Davis shared a screenshot on Tuesday of a letter he received from United Airlines that banned him from traveling with the airline while a July 13 incident was reviewed. United Airlines has since clarified that the letter was received on July 14 and the travel ban has since been lifted.
