Taxpayers Association Supports Renewal of Chula Vista Sales Tax on November Ballot
The San Diego County Taxpayers Association announced its support for extending Chula Vista’s Measure P — a half-cent sales tax approved initially in November 2016. Measure P was approved as a temporary, ten-year, sales tax to fund high priority infrastructure and maintenance projects around the city. By renewing the measure, voters would continue this source of funding for an additional 10 years at the current rate — without raising taxes.
Imperial Beach nonprofit helping feed families in need in San Diego County
Food insecurity impacts one in four San Diegans, according to Hunger Free San Diego, and a local organization is stepping in to assist those affected. “Usually about, right now it's about 104 families a week that we service, which has grown. Before, when we started two years ago, it was about 55 to 60 families a week," said Debra Benson, coordinator of the food pantry at the Imperial Beach Neighborhood Center.
Parts of Pacific Crest Trail close in both ends of California as wildfires rage
Two California wildfires on opposite ends of the state have closed access to parts of the Pacific Crest Trail. In Southern California, the Vista Fire has closed the Pacific Crest Trail near Mount Baldy. In Northern California, the Shelly Fire has closed the trail between Etna Summit and Box Camp Trail.

(The Center Square) - California continued its rapid increase in assaults, robberies, car thefts, and shoplifting, with the latest statewide data finding shoplifting increased 39% in 2023. Violent crimes overall rose from 193,019 in 2022 to 199,838, with most of the increase from jumps in assaults and robberies.
