Horseheads baseball standout strikes NIL deal with area Subway restaurant
Dom Russ was as good as anyone in the region at setting the table as a leadoff batter while starring for the Horseheads High baseball team. Russ, 17, is hoping to do the same for future area athletes as he ushers in the era of NIL deals in the Elmira-Corning region. The shortstop is headed to Division I Le Moyne College in Syracuse this fall and Thursday afternoon filmed promos as part of an NIL agreement with the Subway restaurant at Village Plaza in Horseheads.

Olean Oilers Sweep Horseheads Hitmen in Doubleheader
OLEAN, NY — The Oilers swept a doubleheader against the Horseheads Hitmen Sunday. Shortstop Joshua Wilson's solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning gave the Oilers a 2-1 lead in Game 1. The home run would turn out to be the winning run in an Oilers 3-1 victory.CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR THE FREE TAPINTO.NET NEWSLETTER Starting pitcher Adam Martin pitched all seven innings, allowing just one run on two hits and striking out five batters. Oilers first baseman Chase Fischer hit an RBI double in the bottom of the second inning of Game 2 and would eventually score off a wild pitch, giving the Oilers a 2-0 lead. The Oilers would go on to win, 5-1. Drew Norton started, pitching five innings and allowing one run on four hits. Relief pitcher and Cuba native Joe Long closed out the game, pitching two innings, allowing no runs or hits. The Oilers will make up a game against the Hornell Steamers on Monday. Kyle Keller attempting Xfinity debut at Watkins Glen for MBM Motorsports
Kyle Keller will attempt to make his Xfinity Series debut in September at Watkins Glen International for MBM Motorsports, the team announced this week. Keller has competed in three ARCA Menards Series races, earning a best finish of fifth at Phoenix Raceway in 2023. The Las Vegas native has also made 26 starts in the ARCA Menards Series West division, scoring six top-five finishes. He currently ranks fifth in the series’ standings through four races in 2024.
