Crash closes Murdocksville Road, tree down in roadway
A single-vehicle crash closed Murdocksville Road just south of Carthage just before 11 p.m. on Tuesday, a story only seen on Moore County News. First responders were dispatched to the 800 block of Murdocksville Road. Based on scanner traffic, there was some initial confusion at the crash scene, as a nearby homeowner reported to 911 that someone was trying to break into their home. Firefighters and EMS were told to stage near the scene until Moore County Sheriff Deputies could arrive. Once deputies arrived, fire and EMS were given the clear to proceed to the scene. Authorities told Moore County News at the scene that the driver of the vehicle was knocking on doors and windows trying to get help, and was not trying to break into the home.

Trash can catches fire, smokes out SP business
A Southern Pines business is working to get the smell of smoke out of its store after a trash can caught fire. First responders were sent to Golf Augusta on Tuesday afternoon. When they arrived, smoke was coming out of the business, however the fire had already been extinguished. Firefighters from Southern Pines used fans to vent smoke out of the golf shop located on U.S. Highway 1.

County crossing elder abuser arrested
WADESBORO — A Richmond County man was recently arrested following a report of elder abuse, called into dispatch during the morning hours of July 12. Conducting a welfare check at a residence on Arbor St., Wadesboro police officer’s discovered an elderly occupant in the home suffering from “serious head and facial trauma.” Officers determined from speaking with the victim, and evaluating his wounds, that the assault most likely occurred the evening before.
