WATCH: Rory McIlroy Saves Par After Putting Off the 17th Green

The greens at Pinehurst No. 2 have been the talk of the 2024 U.S. Open and for good reason. This viral video from Tuesday's practice round shows just how absolutely brutal it can be if you land a ball in the wrong spot or are unfortunate enough to make an errant putt.

Rory McIlroy found himself making one of those unfortunate errant putts on the par-3 17th hole during the second round on Friday morning. However, the current No. 3 ranked golfer in the world was able to walk away from the hole with a par.

After his putt rolled straight past the hole and back off into the fairway, McIlroy was able to save par and mark a one-putt on the scorecard with an excellent chip shot that kept him at T3 and -3 for the tournament. Impressive.

Rory McIlroy fired an outstanding opening round 65 and looks to stay in contention through the weekend at Pinehurst.
