    Hours After Major Accident on Route 287, Piscataway Fire Crews Return to Extinguish Car Fire

    Piscataway fire and rescue crews extricated a driver from an overturned car on Route 287 early Friday morning.

    PISCATAWAY, NJ – Piscataway fire and rescue crews responded to an early morning car fire on Route 287 north on Saturday.

    Holmes Marshall, River Road, and Possumtown fire companies were able to extinguish the blaze that was reported at about 2:50 a.m.

    The fire follows another incident that occurred at about 2:10 a.m. Friday morning when fire and rescue crews were called to the highway near Exit 8 for a serious motor vehicle accident between a car and a tractor trailer. Holmes Marshall first responders reported finding the car on its side against the guardrail when they arrived at the scene.

    Rescue crews from New Market and River Road Fire Departments were able to cut off the roof of the car in order to extricate the driver who was trapped inside, according to reports.

    The driver was taken to an area hospital in unknown condition. No word on if anyone in the truck was injured.

    Haz-Mat crews were able to contain fuel and coolant spills that resulted from the crash.
