Supervisors vote to halt increase for cannabis tax
SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY — During a special meeting on June 24, the San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors voted to halt a cannabis tax increase for the county. The board voted to keep the tax at 6 percent rather than increasing to 8 percent. The tax was originally scheduled to increase starting July 1.
OCSD discusses opposition to contract transferring Oceano's fire services to county
Fire services remain a touchy subject in Oceano after a recently approved contract transfers responsibility for the area to San Luis Obispo County. "As the past [Oceano Community Services District] board member and committee member in support of the 2020 fire tax increase, I'm here to say I told you so," previous OCSD board president Karen White said during public comment at the June 26 board of directors meeting. "I warned them that if Oceano did not increase its tax revenue to fund fire services that went to San Luis County for help, the district would lose its fire station."

SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY, Calif. - Sun Bucks is a new program in California that provides access to food for kids in the summertime. Families will get $120 for each eligible child to buy groceries during the summer. Families who qualify will get Sun Bucks mailed to their home on an S-EBT card. Justin Vineyards grants $300,000 to Paso Robles nonprofits and schools
Justin Community Grants Program has provided more than $1.6 million in support. – Justin Vineyards & Winery has selected 13 North San Luis Obispo County nonprofit organizations and 22 county schools as its 2024 Community Grants recipients. The recipients were collectively awarded $300,000, which will go directly to improving the lives of those who live in the greater Paso Robles community through funding social services programs, education, resources, and community initiatives. Since its inception in 2013, the Justin Community Grants Program has provided more than $1.6 million to support 255 community programs, 255 teachers, and 50 schools.
