Pittsburgh-area communities open cooling centers during heat wave

With a prolonged and potentially dangerous heat wave gripping the Pittsburgh area this week, several communities are opening cooling centers.
PITTSBURGH
Ammon from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday and Friday
Beechview Healthy Active Living Community Center, 1555 Broadway Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15216 from noon to 7 p.m. on Juneteenth, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday
Brighton Heights Healthy Active Living Community Center, 3515 McClure Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15212 from noon to 7 p.m. on Juneteenth, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday
Brookline from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday and Friday
Greenfield Healthy Active Living Community Center, 745 Greenfield Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15217 from noon to 7 p.m. on Juneteenth, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday

Sheraden Healthy Active Living Community Center, 720 Sherwood Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15204 from noon to 7 p.m. on Juneteenth, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday
South Side Healthy Active Living Community Center, 12th & Bingham Streets, Pittsburgh, PA 15203 from noon to 7 p.m. on Juneteenth, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday
Bethel Park - The Municipality of Bethel Park’s Community Center will be open as a cooling center. Hours for the Bethel Park Community Center, 5151 Park Ave., are Sunday from noon to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Any residents experiencing difficulties due to the high temperatures should call the Dispatch Center at 412-833-2000.
Carnegie - The Carnegie Borough Building at 1 Veterans Way will be open through Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily
Clairton - Council Chambers from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily through Sunday
Edgewood - First Presbyterian Church from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily through Friday
Elizabeth Township - Municipal Building from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday
Hampton Township - The Hampton Middle School, located at 4589 School Dr, will be open as a cooling center. It’s open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Indiana Township - Community Center at 3710 Saxonburg Boulevard from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m on Tuesday
Munhall - Munhall Emergency Management is opening a cooling center in the Munhall Borough community room, 1 Raymond Bodnar Way, from noon to 5 p.m.
O’Hara Township - A cooling center is open at Pleasant Valley VFC, 152 Kittanning Pike. Those who need transportation should call 412-782-1400 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Reserve Township: Reserve VFD - Station 317 is opening up the Ballroom at 33 Lonsdale Street as a cooling center. It will be open until 10:00 pm Tuesday. If power isn’t back on Wednesday morning, they will reopen at 11:00 a.m.
Scott Township - Community Room from noon to 6 p.m. daily through Thursday
Shaler Township - North Hills Library at 1822 Mount Royal Boulevard from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday
South Fayette Township - Municipal Building at 100 Township Drive from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Thursday
Tarentum - VFW Post 5758 at 208 E 4th Avenue on Thursday and Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Verona - The Verona Municipal Building is available from noon to 8 p.m. as a cooling center. The borough is not able to provide transportation
West Deer Township - West Deer Fire Dept. No. 2 at 2163 Saxonburg Boulevard until further notice
