Steelers defensive Captain Cam Heyward raised eyebrows last week when he mentioned if he doesn’t re-sign with Pittsburgh, he could end up in a place like Cleveland.

"I still have family in Cleveland ... my wife is from Cleveland. We will see. I am not trying to think about all that right now," Heyward told Mark Kaboly of The Athletic before Steelers Minicamp ended.

While Heyward could end up signing with another team in 2025 if a deal doesn’t get done with Pittsburgh, Kaboly clarified on The Fan Morning Show that Heyward wasn’t serious.

“It was a joke, he was joking about Cleveland,” said Kaboly. “That’s all that was.”

Kaboly says he referenced Steelers legendary running back Franco Harris and his last season in Seattle while talking to Heyward.

“I said to him, ‘hey, no one is going to see you in #32 Seattle Seahawks Franco jersey, right? Or Cleveland Cincinnati?’,” Kaboly said.

That’s when Heyward said his wife has some family in the Cleveland area.

Heyward made more clarification on Sunday saying “The goal is to be a Steeler for the rest of my career….. anyways on a more important front happy Father’s Day yall.”

Heyward also responded to a message on “X” clarifying he doesn’t want to go to the Browns.
