Who says no if Pirates trade for Luis Robert Jr.?

If the Pirates want to make some significant noise in the Wild Card race, many baseball insiders say the Pirates need to go out and get a bat that can provide some offensive output.

One of those name that have been discussed as a possible candidate is Chicago White Sox outfielder Luis Robert Jr.

The 26-year-old Robert had 38 home runs last season with a .264 batting average, 80 RBI and 20 stolen bases.

Robert spent the first part of the season with a hip flexor injury and just returned in early June.

He’s played in 21 games this season and is currently batting .195 with seven home runs and OPS of .764.

According to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal, the White Sox are in “no rush” to trade Robert because of the haul they may be able to get for him in the offseason.

But with the White Sox 35 games under .500 a nice trade package could sway the Sox.

Longtime Pirates writer John Perrotto, tells The Joe Show that Robert stands out to him as a possible addition.

Robert will make $12.5 million this season and $15 million next season with two $20 million club options in 2026 and 2027 before becoming an unrestricted free agent in 2028.

“He’s a very talented player,” said Perotto, adding he has dealt with a history of injuries.

With his health and coming over an injury, acquiring Robert would be a gamble (most trades the Pirates can/would make would be) and it will cost the Pirates with Robert’s lucrative contract.

But, take a look at the Pirates outfield, Robert is a talented fielder and could easily replace a Michael A. Taylor or Jack Suwinski, who just doesn’t look like he can be the player the Pirates have hoped he would be, at least not at this point.

Having that type of bat in the lineup would be a welcome replacement.
