Miami Dolphins writer uses the Pittsburgh Steelers as an example of an easy out in the playoffs

It’s no secret that the Pittsburgh Steelers haven’t incurred the playoff success that is the organization's standard.

Head Coach Mike Tomlin admitted as much in the press release of his new contract extension.

But it seems that teams and media members sometimes forget the pecking order when it comes to NFL franchises, and that’s what just happened with Travis Wingfield of the Miami Dolphins team website.

    Steelers an easy out?

"Sometimes winning playoff games is as favorable as your draw. Granted, good for the Lions, they won their division and that Rams team was no easy out, even though I picked against them all year," Wingfield said on a recent episode of the Dolphins Drive Time podcast . "That was a good Rams football team they beat, but then they get the Bucs in the divisional round? Can we have that? Can we get the Steelers, at home, in the divisional round this year? That would be a guaranteed trip to the conference championship game."

For one, nothing in the game of professional football is a guarantee. On top of that, notice how Wingfield said “Can we get the Steelers at home?”

Well, there’s a reason for that. Miami is a track team . Their defense and offensive skill positions are built with speed and their QB doesn’t have a live arm that can cut through the wind like Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, or others.

So my question for Wingfield would be, does he think the Dolphins would fare well against the Steelers if Pittsburgh were the ones hosting the playoff game? Because if he said yes, then certainly he’s delusional.

So sure, poke fun at the lack of playoff success in recent years, and making the playoffs and winning in the playoffs are two very different things. But last I checked, when was the last time the Dolphins won a playoff game? Oh that’s right it was in the year 2000.

You know, nearly a quarter century ago and before the Steelers would add to their NFL record-tying six Lombardi Trophies in 2006 and 2008 before coming up short in 2010.

So yeah, 2017 is far too long since a playoff win for the Steelers. But minnows don’t swim with sharks for a reason, and I think Wingfield is forgetting who’s the shark and who’s the minnow in this scenario.
